Jeff Castner previews the Colts

Jeff Castner is very optimistic about the 2014 Indianapolis Colts. He believes they will be favored to win their division and make a very long run into the playoffs. However, losing Robert Mathis on defense to suspension for the first four games of the season could prove to be very costly. The first four games should go a long way in determining what kind of team the Colts put on the field. With the suspension of Robert Mathis can this Colts team rally behind a very strong offense and compete at Denver to open up the season? Very unlikely. Denver will be coming off a very disappointing Super Bowl loss and will be seeking revenge for last year’s loss to the Colts. Look for Manning to have a monster opening game with Mathis watching from the sidelines.

Jeff Castner believes the Colts will bounce right back and win home games against Philly and Tennessee. They should also take care of business on the road against Jacksonville before getting Mathis back on the field for game five at home against Baltimore. The Colts schedule is very favorable and there is no reason to believe they can’t win ten or eleven games this season.

The 2014 Colts offense will be very strong. Led by the best young quarterback in the league in Andrew Luck, this offense will be very explosive. The receiving core with the addition of Hakeem Nicks, a rising star in T. Y. Hilton and a healthy Reggie Wayne and Dwayne Allen will be fun and exciting to watch. Also, look for Trent Richardson to be much improved after a full year of training camp and becoming more comfortable in the Colts offense.

Once again, the big question mark for the Colts will be their Defense. Can they stop anybody? The addition of D’Quell Jackson should help at the linebacker spot, but there are still a lot of question marks on the defensive side of the ball. There is no doubt the Colts success this season will again rest on their defense. If the defense can improve at all this season, look for the Colts to go very deep into the playoffs.
